不是生與死的距離

《飛鳥集》是印度詩人泰戈爾創作的詩集，它包括325首清麗的無標題小詩，首次出版於1916年。這些詩的基本題材多為極其常見事物，不外乎小草、落葉、飛鳥、星辰、河流等等。

世界上最遙遠的距離，詩句，作者說法較多，一說出自張小嫻的小說《荷包里的單人床》，另一說出自印度著名詩人泰戈爾詩集《飛鳥集》，但《飛鳥集》中並未收錄近似詩句，大抵是因為其中一個版本最後一句中有「世界上最遙遠的距離是飛鳥與魚的距離」，被一些人認為是泰戈爾所創作，但到目前為止沒有客觀證據說明泰戈爾創作過類似詩句。
原句為：「世界上最遙遠的距離，不是生與死的距離，不是天各一方，而是，我就站在你的面前，你卻不知道我愛你」，該句可在張小嫻作品《荷包里的單人床》中找到。「世界上最遙遠的距離」此句詩現在版本較多，多為網友創作。

飛鳥與魚的故事
有一條魚生活在一片海域里，它每天就是不停的游來游去。一天，有一隻迷途的鳥兒飛過這片海域的上空，它很疲倦，低下頭尋找海中的一片陸地，水裡的魚覺得水面的光線變得有些昏暗，就抬頭望向天空，這樣，魚和鳥的視線交織到了一起。孤獨的魚和迷途的飛鳥深深地彼此吸引著對方。
飛鳥給魚講遼闊的天空，講廣袤的大地，……魚給飛鳥講深邃的海洋，……它們為彼此打開了一扇未知的卻又豐富多彩的窗；
它們還有好多共同的話題：每個早晨的朝霞，每個傍晚的落日，每個夜晚的星空，每分鍾空氣里的味道，樹木的，土地的，海水的，春天的，夏天的，秋天的，冬天的，……它們彼此深深愛慕著對方，這樣就過了好久，它們以為此生就這樣廝守，飛鳥可以忘卻飛翔的天空，魚可以忘卻深潛過的海底。
誰說魚和飛鳥就不能在一起？
一天，飛鳥看見別的鳥飛過，它想起了天空，它問魚是否願意和它一起感受風從身邊掠過的自由，魚看看自己的鰭沒有說話；又是一天，魚為了躲避暴風雨，深深潛入水中，在太陽重現的時候，它興奮的問飛鳥是否能看到水中珊瑚的燦爛，飛鳥只能看著波光粼粼的水面苦笑。
它們知道了飛鳥與魚是不可以在一起的，雖然彼此相愛，但是魚終歸是水裡的魚，飛鳥終於飛離了那片海域，永遠的再也沒有回來，它並不知道，魚亦再沒有游回這片海域，它們都在小心翼翼地躲避那段往事，那段飛鳥與魚的故事。
